Most are there for the good times but hardly ever for the rough patches.&lt;br&gt;

I suppose also in making a public declaration, it gives more weight to it.&lt;br&gt;
&lt;br&gt;
Perhaps a more intimate wedding with immediate family and very close friends would make the occasion less expensive and less stressful too. Maybe that would be a good compromise. &lt;br&gt;

You don't need to blow a fortune on it, either.&lt;br&gt;

I do think though that having an occasion where you publicly declare your love for your partner, and commit in front of everyone to spend your whole life with just one person, is a good thing. If you mean it, of course! It's such a massive deal that to make a public declaration is really important, I think. In a way, to do so is to ask your friends and family for a lifetime of support.
